Let this bar romance you as it echoes an element of the ancient Greeks’ concept of Eros: the creative impulse of ever-unfolding nature, igniting the Light of coming into being and bringing order to all things in the cosmos.

Many of us connect the word “aphrodisiac” with a sales pitch for some product for arousal… sex sells right? Not so with the Passion Bar, though laden with aphrodisiacs she is!

From October ‘09 - February ‘10, I consumed our Passion Elixir (the drinkable form of this bar) at least once every day. This daily communion with the herbs taught me something profound about their functionality - not strictly to arouse the physical desire to copulate, but rather to empower passion, awaken compassion, strengthen connection with both people and our own life’s path. Let’s give voice to these herbs… don’t be afraid to give aphrodisiac chocolate to your grandmother!

Horny Goat Weed A Chinese goat herder is said to have reported increased sexual activity in his animals after eating this plant. Since then, healers have prescribed it to restore passion, boost erectile function, alleviate fatigue, and soothe menopausal discomfort. It is also used to address disorders of the liver, joints and kidneys.

Maca grows at the highest peaks of the Andes Mountains. This protein-packed root has been dubbed the “Peruvian Gingseng” for its use as a remedy to build stamina, energy and sexual potency. According to legend Incan warriors took maca with them to battle to increase their agility, strength, and endurance.

Dong Quai Used in China, Korea, and Japan for more than a thousand years as spice, tonic, and medicine, Dong Quai root is sometimes called the “female ginseng.”Its most frequent application is in the area of women’s reproductive problems, where it is used to relieve menstrual disorders such as cramps, irregular menstrual cycles, infrequent periods, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and menopausal symptoms.

Fo Ti is also called He shou wu - “black-haired Mr. He” in Chinese – referring to the legendary elderly villager (Mr. He) whose black hair and vitality was restored by taking fo-ti. In Chinese medicine, fo-ti is a longevity tonic that is used to promote hair growth, restore pigment to greying hair, and to combat premature aging, weakness, vaginal discharge, and erectile dysfunction. Additionally, fo-ti is reputed to restore energy and strength and act as a beneficial digestive aid.

Cacao The ways in which cacao inspires Love are countless. Magnesium relaxes smooth muscle tissue and aids the heart. Arginine plays an important role in cell division, and release of hormones. Phenylethylamine (PEA) is a Love Chemical produced when we fall in Love and during the Big O. Anandamide is a cannabinoid neurotransmitter and is known an “the bliss chemical”. Tryptophan eases anxiety. Theobromine stimulates the cardiovascular system and is a vasodialator to help the delivery of all phenomenal nutrients and medicinal herbs.

You’ll find all these ingredients in Gnosis’ Passion Bar; the blessed, chocolaty universe where Love in all its forms exist in harmonious balance, providing sweets for all the world’s sweethearts.
