Grenadian cacao beans and nibs inherited - and now deliver to you - the power of the volcanoes that, eons ago, created the super-rich soil in which they grew. Thrusting up into the tropical sky, fronds waving and coconuts swaying, are coconut palms whose nectar is thick with potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and vitamins, B1, B2, B3, B6, and C  to fire up your transformation. We’ve folded in delicately scented nutmeg from The Spice Island, as Grenada has long been known.

The empowering benefits of your purchase will travel back to Grenada, returning, in a sense, the island nation’s favor of providing its cacao for our bars. 15% of the purchase price of each REACH Grenada OrigiNib Bar will be used for Gnosis projects that empower Grenadian organic agriculture - a powerful way to promote independence, economic health, child welfare, and pride in their soil, their labor, and all they bring forth. 

Founded in 2008, REACH's mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of Grenada's most vulnerable children. REACH Grenada primarily works with children residing in Grenada's institutional homes where many were previously victims of physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse, neglect and abandonment. Their multi-dimensional programs include therapeutic services, mentoring, caregiver training and support, and yoga and meditation.

When I was working with cacao in December 2009, I personally saw the children affected by a 40% unemployment rate, by the lack of agricultural initiatives (besides the Grenada Chocolate Company's organic cacao farm cooperatives), and by the degradation of infrastructure after after the 2004 hurricane. I met a child who, abandoned by his parents, was used as a sex slave. I was moved to donate out of pocket to a friend who was helping at a nearby orphanage. Shortly after my return, my friend Clay Gordon introduced me to Neo Moreton of REACH Grenada. Since then, my heart has yearned to reach out and help them on their mission!

I was invited to return to Grenada with REACH in June 2011 and have begun working with REACH and The Grenada Chocolate Company on projects within the orphanages and emergency shelters, as well as directly addressing the root cause of unemployment with organic farming initiatives. I believe the best way to help a country in need is through organic agriculture. I am in support of outsourcing work - but only if that work honors the culture of the people we are working with! Outsourcing technology does not support heritage, while organic agriculture is a powerful way to promote independence, economic health, and pride for their soil, their labor, the product of their soil.
