The U.S. Postal Service joined SmartWay as a logistics partner. USPS contracts with thousands of truck carriers, including a broad range of large, medium and small carriers. By participating in SmartWay, we are committing to work with our transportation service providers to reduce the amount of fuel utilized to transport mail across the United States.
U.S. Postal Service Alternative Fueled Vehicle Reporting
The U.S. Postal Service has a long-established alternative fuel vehicle program. We are on track to increase alternative fuel use 10% annually.
The Postal Service continues to take proactive steps to increase the use of alternative fuel. Most of this fuel comes from commercially available sources.
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 requires USPS to report efforts to utilize alternative fuels to the Department of Energy annually.
